Prompted by @sarahcarter on twitter, I made Richard Olney’s Garlic Soup recipe found on 101 Cookbooks. 12+ chopped garlic handful of dried bay leaves couple of shakes of the dried sage (yeah… real scientific here) 3-4 sprigs of thyme teaspoon of sea salt to start 1 whole egg + 2 yolks [...] So, this totally happened couple of weeks ago… when Ryan was still around. Last year we came to Fette Sau, too, and it’s always a good time. Last year, though, I used to come to Fette Sau kind of often. This year, since this isn’t the case, it was a nice treat. [...] Last weekend we had a dinner party at Laundromat put together by their house-guest Tami, a spunky photographer from Japan my mother’s age. She’s so adorable in large funky glasses with a red frame and her signature leggings. She put together a feast with chirashi sushi (sushi rice with various toppings), sashimi, [...] Last week was a pretty busy week without much cooking. We just wrapped things up with our usual cold Udon noodles in a Southeast Asian garlic lime sauce, with a pinch of dashi. I just topped that with shiitake mushrooms and boiled vegetables (sansai) blanched in thick dashi, soy sauce and mirin. [...] My oven just wouldn’t heat up for the longest time.  "There is very little that I cannot / wouldn't eat. However, Ryan was able to get a good laugh out of a panicked look I had on my face while drowning back raw baby squid with beer."  Ryan needs to write a blurb here about himself. Like the time he almost lost his shit over the greatness that is Japanese Bento and set lunches. Needless to say, we both like to eat very much. |
